History

The Shenley Cricket Ground was designed by the renowned W G Grace. The Porter Family owned the Shenley estate in the latter part of the 19th century and it was they who asked W G Grace to design the ground to the dimensions of The Oval. Thankfully W G Grace accepted this request and the grounds together with the beautiful 19th century built pavilion are now open for all to enjoy today.

On the 22nd June 1997 Denis Compton, the legendary Middlesex and England cricketer unveiled The Denis Compton Oval. Since its unveiling the Denis Compton Oval has rapidly become one of the most attractive cricket venues in the country and a major cricketing centre of excellence. A multitude of national and county teams have played on The Denis Compton Oval including the national teams of South Africa, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, the West Indies, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, Ireland & Scotland.
